Military records indicate his burial here but there is also a grave marker for him at St. Mary's Cemetery, Newton Lower Falls, Middlesex, Massachusetts. No records have been found indicating whether he was moved to St. Mary's or whether the marker at St. Mary's is a cenotaph.

Lewis A. Arnold was the son of Union Brigadier General Lewis Golding Arnold and Julia Murdock (Lowd) Arnold.

He was a Second Lieutenant when he died at the Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. The cause of death was "Yellow fever" according to the entry for Lewis A. Arnold in the U.S., Registers of Deaths in the Regular Army, 1860-1889, Volume 2. The remarks column in that record for Lewis Arnold contains the entry "B. A Clements Surg. USA" - an apparent reference to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel Bennett A. Clements, a surgeon with the United States Army. This writer infers that Lt. Col. Clements was the physician who certified the cause of Lewis Arnold's death.
