May Ackerman Obituary
May Morgan Ackerman, 90, passed away on November 3, 2023, in Concord, NC after having lived in Blacksburg, VA, Lexington, SC, Macon, GA, Due West, SC and Williston, SC. May was born on June 1, 1933. She was loyal to family, loving and attentive, witty, and fiercely competitive. Married Robert Kilgore Ackerman Jan, 28, 1956

May is survived by her children, Mark Ackerman (Mandy), Roxanne Spencer (Eddie), and Bettye Ackerman (Michael Garvin); her cherished grandchildren, Robert Spencer (Sara), Andrew Spencer (Olivia), Rachel Spencer (Hannah Wing), Cassidy Ackerman-Garvin, and Finlay Ackerman-Garvin; and her greatgrandchildren, Sophie and Hugo Spencer. She is also survived by her sister, Jeaneene Wise, and numerous nieces and nephews.

May attended Columbia College and was very proud to have been made an honorary alumna of Wesleyan college where she served as First Lady. She was a lifelong Methodist and most recently a member of Lexington United Methodist Church.

May had a variety of hobbies including tennis, bridge, cards, backgammon, and any competition. She truly loved to win (perhaps not always graciously). She loved engaging in these activities and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
May and Bob were blessed with many lifelong friends. She was a dedicated volunteer to her church and community and a gracious and active host. She was a member of numerous bridge clubs and tennis teams (including championship teams). She was a proud and faithful Democrat and Gamecock fan. She especially enjoyed attending USC baseball games. She served along with husband through his academic career at Erskine College, Drew University, and Wesleyan College and his time in the Marines at Camp Lajeune, San Clemente, CA, and Fredericksburg, VA.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, November 17th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, 567 Windmere Drive, Lexington, SC. A memorial service to celebrate May's life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Lexington United Methodist Church, located at 309 E Main St, Lexington, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Meals on Wheels America, PO Box 791568, Baltimore, MD 21279-1568; Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth Road, Macon, Georgia 31210-4462; Lexington United Methodist Church; or a charity of your choice.
