Barbara Elaine (Ginley) Hughes passed away Tuesday, November 7th at Ascension St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson surrounded by her family.
Barb was born in Anderson, Indiana on January 5, 1944 to Paul and Virginia (Blakely) Ginley. She lived most of her life in Pendleton, Indiana with the exception of five years in Midland, Texas.
She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1962 and was an active member of her class alumni serving as treasurer for many years.
She worked at Best Ever Dairy and then worked for attorney Doug Owens in Pendleton. After retirement, she enjoyed working as a hostess at the Pendleton House, Grindstone Charley's and Sahm's. She also owned a tax preparation business for 33 years.
She enjoyed playing horseshoes, bingo, and going camping and loved dressing up for Halloween. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting and drawing. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her cats and had several over the years. She was able to complete all of her bucket list items except white water rafting.
On October 22, 1966, she married the love of her life, Paul Hughes. Paul was a devoted and loving caregiver to her for the past nine years.
She is survived by her husband, sons, Aaron (Sonya) Hughes and David Hughes, daughter, Heather (Dennis) Sheets, grandchildren, Jessica, Holli, and Rebecca Hughes, Chelsea and Kyla Sheets, Alesha Marsh, and Justin Sheets, great-grandchildren Jack and Jane Tubbs, Charlie Flynn, Addison Gaskin, and Aidan Webb seven step great-grandchildren and grand dogs River and Elyse. She is also survived by her sister, Marcia (Bob) Burk, sisters-in-law, Debbie Ginley, Penny Ginley and Sue Hughes, half siblings Gene Ginley and Jacquie Brauchla and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her very special childhood friend, Nina Howell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard, Michael, and Ralph Ginley, father and mother-in-law Orville and Lorraine Hughes, and brother-in-law Don Hughes.
Her family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Rawlins House. They took excellent care of her for the past seven years, and many of the staff became like family to her. She was especially close to Kevin, Chris, Jimella, Rebecca, and Vicki. She asked for them frequently during her hospital stay.
Visitation will take place Saturday, November 11th at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel in Pendleton from 12:00-2:00 with services immediately following. Burial will take place at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton.
In lieu of flowers, Barb requested that donations be made to the Humane Society or the animal shelter of the donor's choice.
