FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. -- Nellie Lanette "Nell" Calhoun Akins, 72, Wife of Dedrick David Akins, died April 8, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Montgomery County, a daughter of the late Sidney Stringer and Cora O'Connor Calhoun. She lived most of her life in the Vidalia and Statesboro areas and moved to Fountain Inn in 1994. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Myot and Bea G. Akins; and grandchildren, David Samuel and Lanette Elizabeth "Lea" Akins, all of Fountain Inn; two sisters, Estelle McNeal of Bradenton, Fla., and Crystobel Malmquist of Marietta. Mrs.Akins was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis V., Sidney F., and Sanford S. Calhoun; and three sisters, Ethel C. Dixon, Odell C. Rowell, and Mamie C. Jones.
The funeral service for Mrs. Nellie Lanette "Nell" Calhoun Akins will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Murchison Funeral Home in Vidalia with Elder Manning Temples and J.T. Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1-2:15 p.m. Thursday before the service.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Bethel Baptist Church, c/o Guy B. Deal, 1745 Nessmith Rd., Statesbnoro 30458; or to Childrens Chance, P.O. Box 7453, Columbia, S.C. 29202.
