The attack on Ruddell Stateion, was the first time, British had used Canon's on the

interior of the western frontier, laying waste to Ruddell's Station KY, allied with them

were several Indian tribes, that out numbered the British soldiers, by hundreds...

The purpose of the Illinois Regiments was to prevent the British from attacking

General George Washington's Armies from the West of the mountains, overall

this was a major success, that may have saved the cause... There were other groups

in the Illinois Regiments, that were very successful, on the western frontier. Not

enough attention is given to these brave soldiers, who fought in the west.

RETURN FROM CANADA TO FIND HIS WIFE:


George Ruddell returns to Canada to find his Wife, as he had promised her...


After the Revolutionary War, George returned to Canada to find his wife, he had promised her, when they became separated, during their captivity, in Canada that he would find her, and bring her home, after months of looking, as luck would have it, he found that she had been in-slaved to an Indian family, and he was able to negotiate her release.

Little Prairie - Pemiscot (Pemiscon) Bayou

" Captain George Ruddle, an inhabitant of Little Prairie,

who served in the militia as Lieutenant and Captain, both

before and after the LOUISIANA PURCHASE, in 1796 opened

a farm on this bayou. His family, when he settled in the

Spanish possessions, consisted of a wife and six children.

He was a slave owner, and a man of substance. Crondelet

made a grant of land directly to him.

BROTHERS ABRAHAM & STEPHEN:


Abraham Ruddle also settled on Pemiscot bayou, (then called

Pemiscon).


They were both sons of Isaac Ruddle, of Ruddle's Station, KY.

When Ruddle's Station was captured by the Indians and the

English under Col Bird, the family of Isaac Ruddle was taken

to Ohio and divided among the Indians. Then Abraham and

Stephen, then young boys, came to be assigned to the Shawnees

and were taken to Piqua where they were adopted and raised by

the Indians. As boys they were playmates of Tecumseh. "

George and Theodocia owned land in Bourbon Co KY. which was deeded to L. Shipp by George Ruddell and Dosia, his w., 13 Mar. 1795. George Ruddell " of Bourbon Co and State of Kentucky for divers causes and good considerations hereunto moving, appointed John Mulherrin and John Ruddle " of the State aforesaid his attorneys to act for him in settling " all my business whatever. " It was signed by George and Theodosia

7 Jan 1796. There is also an H. B. to this Power of Attorney, " That whereas there is a deed of conveyance " of 200 a. of land George Ruddell Senior... we as fully empower our said attorneys to make said Deed as if we were personally present..." It was acknowledged 20 Jan. 1796: "This day came Geroge Ruddell and Theodosia, his wife, before me... Abraham Byrd."

1835 - THE FINAL CHAPTER NACOGDOCHES CO TX:


There was one more chapter in our Pioneer's life, Nacogdoches Co Mexico/TX, 1835,

which won its independence from Mexico in 1836.


George died in Nacogdoches County, Texas. Many trails from the east went through this area, in fact there was a well known trail from St Louis MO, that connected to Trammel's Trace in Ark., & Texas and terminated in Nacogdoches Co TX. In all probability George may have taken this trail, as many other of our ancestors. Folks used this popular trail, to avoid hostile Indians and Bandits.


1834 - George applies for a land grant in Nacogdoches Co Mexico (Later Texas).


1835 - Nacogdoches Co Texas, Mexico: (before the 1836 Texas Revolution.


1835 - George's Immigration Date to Nacogdoches Co Mexico - May 3, 1835.

Received: 1 League and 1 Labor of land = over 4605 acres.

"These measurements were different between Mexico and Texas, in 1835, and still different after the Texas Revolution that ended Apr, 21, 1836. I do not know if George, had to refile, after the war. But it does appear he retained most of the land given him

even after the 1836 war.


1835 -Land description in what will later to become, Cherokee County was given and title awarded May 4, 1835.


1836 George deeded ½ of the land grant to Jeremiah Strode, Mar 10, 1836

1837 - Page 10 of Vol A July 31, 1837 James Bradshaw requested for Letters Testamentary on the estate of Geo Ruddell, dec'd. Action was continued to special term.

Page 14 of Vol A Sept 25, 1837 Same result---put off to a special term.

Page 16 of Vol A Oct 7, 1837 Continued until next regular term.

Page 17 of Vol A Oct 30, 1837 On Estate of George Ruddell. Petition of James Bradshaw for testamentary letters on said estate and also to have George Ruddell's will proven and admitted on record. Court granted that will be admitted after proof.

1839-1848 - The estate proceedings continue for some years, to long to place here...

1835 - THE FINAL CHAPTER NACOGDOCHES CO TX:


There was one more chapter in our Pioneer's life, Nacogdoches Co Mexico/TX, 1835,

which won its independence from Mexico in 1836.


George died in Nacogdoches County, Texas. Many trails from the east went through this area, in fact there was a well known trail from St Louis MO, that connected to Trammel's Trace in Ark., & Texas and terminated in Nacogdoches Co TX. In all probability George may have taken this trail, as many other of our ancestors. Folks used this popular trail, to avoid hostile Indians and Bandits.


1834 - George applies for a land grant in Nacogdoches Co Mexico (Later Texas).


1835 - Nacogdoches Co Texas, Mexico: (before the 1836 Texas Revolution.


1835 - George's Immigration Date to Nacogdoches Co Mexico - May 3, 1835.

Received: 1 League and 1 Labor of land = over 4605 acres.

"These measurements were different between Mexico and Texas, in 1835, and still different after the Texas Revolution that ended Apr, 21, 1836. I do not know if George, had to refile, after the war. But it does appear he retained most of the land given him

even after the 1836 war.


1835 -Land description in what will later to become, Cherokee County was given and title awarded May 4, 1835.


1836 George deeded ½ of the land grant to Jeremiah Strode, Mar 10, 1836

1837 - George's Death in Texas and Probate Proceeding.

1837 - Page 10 of Vol A July 31, 1837 James Bradshaw requested for Letters Testamentary on the estate of Geo Ruddell, dec'd. Action was continued to special term.

Page 14 of Vol A Sept 25, 1837 Same result---put off to a special term.

Page 16 of Vol A Oct 7, 1837 Continued until next regular term.

Page 17 of Vol A Oct 30, 1837 On Estate of George Ruddell. Petition of James Bradshaw for testamentary letters on said estate and also to have George Ruddell's will proven and admitted on record. Court granted that will be admitted after proof.

1839-1848 - The estate proceedings continue for some years, to long to place here...

George died in old Nacogdoches Co TX, which was later chopped up to form other counties, some say some of his land were in the newly formed Cherokee Co TX, which his old Nacogdoches lands were, many folks were buried on their own lands when they died
