James R. Allen, a 1943 graduate of New Albany High School, died at the age of 96 on November 21st, 2021, just shy of his 97th birthday.

He was born on December 12, 1924 to J. Ross Allen and Matilda Reitz Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother Ray Allen and by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Banks Allen.

Following WW II service in the Army Air Corps., Jim attended UCLA and did writing for Steve Allen who was just beginning his broadcast career in Los Angeles. In 1951 he went to New York to work for ABC writing a television show featuring Frances Langford, Don Ameche and Jack Lemmon. In 1955 he returned to Los Angeles to team with his brother Ray writing scripts for such television series as Dobie Gillis, Bachelor Father and Hazel.
Beginning in 1957, Jim spent 35 years as a writer-producer for two San Francisco advertising agencies consecutively, BBDO and McCann-Erickson.
He served on the Board of Trustees of Lone Mountain College in San Francisco and was a member of Governor Ronald Reagan's Committee for Efficiency in Government.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Nancy Allen Lee and a son, James R. Allen Jr and by grandsons Matthew Lee, Ryan Lee and Grant Allen.
In Jim's memory, contributions can be made to the donor's preferred charity.
