Ethel nee' May Block
February 10, 1925 - October 16, 2023

Ethel May Block passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2023, with her family holding her hands. Born February 10, 1925, in Catlett, VA, to parents Perry & Irene May, Ethel grew up on a small dairy farm in Virginia during the Depression, in a farmhouse with no indoor plumbing or electricity, attending a one-room schoolhouse. She left the farm at age 19 to volunteer at Church World Service, a disaster relief center in Maryland, where she met a young man from Minnesota, Ervin Block, who became a minister. Together, they shepherded congregations in Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, including Hope Congregational Church in Euclid, for 19 years. Ervin predeceased her after 57 wonderful years of marriage.

Ethel is survived by children Linda Block-Coalter, Sarah Naso and husband Vincenzo Naso, and John Block; her grandchildren Claire Coalter, Erin Block, Rachel Naso Dennis and husband Colin Dennis, Nicole Naso, Siram Coalter, Chloe Cappella and husband Dave Cappella, Hannah Naso, and Anna and Lily Artigas; great-grandchildren Jacob Coalter and Maverick John Warriner.

Ethel's family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers who cared for Ethel with so much love and dedication: Alice Bowles, Michelle Martin, Marquita Saunders, and hospice workers from Traditions Health.

A celebratory Memorial Service will be held at Lyndhurst Community of Faith Church, 5312 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, OH 44124, on November 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The family will be greeting friends at 10:00 AM. Ethel is buried at Knollwood Cemetery, Section 15, Lot 257A. Ethel asked that donations be made in her memory to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Church World Service.
