He was born June 24,1921,in Piedmont,Mo., son of the late William and Margaret (Lane) Hughes.
He was united in marriage to Virgie Hicks July 16,1939. She survives.
Mr. Hughes served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, decorated with two bronze stars and a good conduct medal and reaching the rank of sergeant tech 4. He was an automotive mechanic at a service station. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Eddie (Elaine) Hughes,Piedmont; one daughter,Anna Lea (Ronald) Ross, Piedmont; five grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held April 9 at Ruegg Funeral Home,Piedmont, with Dr. Jim McCullen and Rev. Gary Aubuchon officiating. Music was provided by Glendell Twidwell and Jeanette Turnbough.
Pallbearers were Jeff and Eric Ross, Todd,Troy and Tony Hughes and Jerry Lane. Full military honors were provided by the National Guard Team from Poplar Bluff. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont.
