Jim, the youngest of five children, was educated in Leipers Fork, Tennessee at Hillsboro School and graduated in 1959. As a young adult he enjoyed working on and racing cars, and even held a 1962 NASCAR card. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army on November 2, 1963, and was stationed in Berlin, Germany for two years during the Berlin Crisis. He received an Expert (Rifle M-14) Army of Occupation Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1965. After returning home he met and married his wife of 57 years, Susie Ann Hall on September 24, 1966. They had two children, Jeffery and Angela, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Over the span of his career, he worked at General Instrument in Tazewell, VA and General Electric in Columbia, TN, both the management positions. He relocated his family to Evansville to accept a position at Wabash Plastics where he worked for 20 years as production manager and retired in 2000. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf and traveling to Florida.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years and his daughter Angela (Jeff) Price; his grandchildren Olivia Wing (Adam), Owen Price, Lillian Price, Lukas Price, and great grandchild Everleigh Wing; his siblings, Judy Mabry, Max (Doris) Burdette, Betty Jackson; and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was proceeded in death by his son, Jeffery Allen Burdette, and his sister, Marie Hogan; his brothers in law, Jay Hogan, Rick Jackson, and Bill Mabry; his sister-in-law, Lea Burdette; and his nephew, Ted Burdette.
Visitation will be held from 4PM-6PM Tuesday, October 31, 2023. An additional hour of visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 12PM until time of service beginning at 1PM.
