He was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Lafayette, son of the late Charles Adair Vaught and Ulalia Larkin Vaught, and graduated from Fairfield Township School.
On Aug. 7, 1953, he married Delia Rosetta Brinson Green in Linden. She preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2000.
He was a private first class in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a rifle expert.
Mr. Vaught worked as a custodian for Tippecanoe School Corp. He owned and operated Vaught Construction Co. Before retiring in 1972, he worked construction for Baumgardner Construction Co. working on homes, roads and streets.
He enjoyed mowing yards, working with plants and reading.
Surviving are four sons, Charles Vaught (wife: Veronica) of Lafayette, Jerry Vaught of Buck Creek, Dennis Vaught of South Carolina and Ricky Vaught of Lafayette; and a daughter, Teresea Vaught Griffith (husband: Gary) of West Lafayette.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
