St. George, UT – Melvin Elmer Bowman, 91 passed away July 28, 2023. He was born October 1, 1931 in Logandale, NV to Elmer Squire Bowman and Elizabeth Rebecca Leavitt. He married Alice Diane Perry, September 10, 1953 in the St. George Temple, St. George, UT.

Melvin was raised and attended school in Logandale until 1946 when their family moved to Pahrump, NV. He then attended Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, NV. His Senior year, he attended 3 days a week and spent the other days working on the ranch. While attending school in Las Vegas, he lived with his sister Loretta Bowman, helped with the grocery shopping for his mother, sisters and their families along with his brother Murton. He spent many hours on the Ranch working, moving range cattle to summer pasture by horse back, operating the dairy by milking morning and night and ran all kinds of machinery to produce alfalfa, cotton and garden produce. He was essential to the work on the Ranch. He also drove truck with his brother in laws moving cattle and other supplies to LA and Las Vegas. He enjoyed cars, horses, rodeos, horse racing and roping.

In 1963 Melvin and Diane moved their family from Pahrump to Las Vegas, NV. During this time he bought a boat and enjoyed many hours with his family driving them all over Lake Mead, Lake Powell and Lake Havasu. He taught his children and many others how to ski and enjoy the water.

Mel and Diane moved to St George in the Fall of 1993, where he resided until his passing. This moved them closer to their Family cabin at Kolob where they spent many happy hours with their kids and grandkids. They canned produce from their gardens and celebrated birthdays and had family reunions.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and fulfilled callings in Sunday School Presidencies, Young Men's Presidencies, Elders Quorums and High Priest Presidencies and served as a High Councilman. After the Las Vegas Temple was built, he served for 3 years doing various Temple duties.

He is survived by Diane Bowman in St. George, UT, Cathlyn Allred (Jeff), Washington,UT, Brent Bowman (Ronda), Las Vegas, NV, Todd Bowman (Patti), Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Wootton (Barry), Riverton, UT, Elaine Albright (Chris), Las Vegas, NV, 16 Grandchildren and 10, soon to be 11, Great Grandchildren. His brother Murton Bowman, (Carole), Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Elizabeth, Brothers Elmo and Perry Bowman, Sisters: Loretta Hunt, Norma Beth, Ruth, Lola Stiborek, Kenna Frehner, Imogene Anderson, Mary Christensen, and grandson Shane Bowman.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 11, 2023 10:30 AM, with a viewing at 9:30 AM and family prayer at 10:15 AM at 3245 N. Moapa Valley Road Chapel. Interment will take place in the Logandale Cemetery. Services will be streamed at the link below.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 S. St. George, UT. Flowers should be sent to Hughes Mortuary or taken to the Chapel on the Day of the Funeral.
