Claude LeRoy Pickler. 79, pioneer resident of Pine Valley, died Wednesday evening at his home near Carson after a long illness. He was born in Elko, Nev., the son of Lemuel and Ellen Pickler. When Claude was growing up he trace with his parent though out the western state from Nevada and California and on to Idaho. He married Elise C Robins on March 20, 1901, at Mineral, Idaho near Weiser, Washington County Idaho at the home of Claude's parents. They moved to Cuprum, Idaho about 1907 to manage the Seven Devil's Hotel and Bar and lived there until after 1914. Claude was instrumental in getting Cuprum Patent Land Grant, signed by President Taft in 1909. He worked at different times at Cornucopia, Mineral and Cuprum, Idaho. He moved to Cornucopia mine about a year later. By 1920, they had moved to Homestead, Oregon where Claude farmed a homestead and mined for Copper. Claude moved with his family to Carson-Halfway 35 years ago from Homestead where he had resided. He had been connected with mining activities most of his life but had farmed in later years.
Surviving are his wife Elise, Carson; daughters, Mrs. Paulene Behrle, Madras, Mrs. Ella Makinson, Cresent City, Calif, Mrs. Eunice Eddy, Springfield, Ore., Miss Marie Pickler, Carson; sons, LeRoy Pickler, Portland; William and Wardell Pickler, Richland; brothers Edgar and Wayne, Los Angles, Len of Spokane and Albert of San Francisco; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Pine Haven cemetery in Halfway with Rev. Al Couiter of the Halfway Christian Church officiating. Interment was under the direction of Beatty Chapel.
