29 April 1974: Weldon L. Manning, 68, died of a heart attack in his home, 127 E. Ridge Ave., Palmyra, Saturday morning. He has been under a doctor's care for several months. Manning was a Philadelphia native, son of the late Harry W. and Mazie Heilman Manning. He was a barber. He opened his own shop in 1947 behind the Valley Trust Co. on the square in Palmyra. Before then he was connected with the Bichelman barber shop. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Palmyra. He was a licensed amateur radio operator for 35 years and recently was active in amateur television. During World War II he served in the Signal Corps. He was a former Columbia County school teacher, having taken his degree from Bloomsburg State College. He also studied at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is survived by his son, Sidney G., Falls Church, Va.; his daughter Kathleen L. Balthaser, of Harrisburg; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy, wife of Charles Spotts, Williamsport, and Winifred, wife of Frank Albeck, of Millville. [Lebanon Daily News]
