She worked at the Kaiser shipyard building warships. This is where she met her husband Harold who was also working for Kaiser at the shipyard. They were married 3 months later in a pastor's home. World War II proved to be hard times but they worked hard and survived. In 1948 they settled in Susanville and raised three daughters. In her younger years, Vernice worked at Walkers Coffee shop as a waitress for 10 years and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church and later the Community Church always volunteering to bake a cake, provide a meal, serving the lord wherever there was a call. Her grandkids will always remember her by her home cooked meals and desserts. She loved to craft and made many beautiful hand quilted quilts. She was loved by all and had a heart of gold. As her health declined she became a resident of Eagle Lake Village and later Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harold in 2002, four siblings and her parents many years ago.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25th., private family viewing at 9:00 am and services at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Diamond Crest Cemetery next to her husband Harold.
