Louisa Jane Cotts was born January 8, 1848, in Wisconsin. She died December 21, 1937, at the home of her son, Hiram W. Cotts, in Pawnee township, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 13 days.
Her maiden name was Kidder. She was united in marriage to Samuel James Cotts in Wisconsin in 1865, immediately after the Civil war. They moved to Kansas and later to Oklahoma in August, 1899.

They bought a homestead four miles south of Ingalls on the Cimarron river, where they lived for five years. They traded their farm for a hotel in Stillwater, called the Russell hotel, on East Ninth avenue, and lived in Stillwater a number of years before they returned to the farm.
Her husband died 21 years ago. Ten children were born to the couple, nine preceding the mother in death. Hiram W. Cotts is the only surviving child. Other survivors are 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Lewis Kidder, Ripley, and one sister, Mary E. DeGraff, Joplin, Mo.

She was a member of the Methodist church for many years. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Ingalls December 22. The Rev. Fred Courtney, Yale, officiated. Burial was in the Ingalls cemetery under direction of the Strode Funeral home.
