Military graveside services will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Family will receive friends at Abell Fruneral Home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Howard died at his home in Lubbock on Tuesday, April 15, 2008.
Mr. Howard was born Oct. 11, 1937, in New Deal. He was raised and attended schools in Abernathy, and he earned his Eagle Scout Rank. He was a longtime member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church. In March of 1961, he married Edith Johnson in Abernathy and together they had two children, Roger and LaRita. She preceded him in death in 1982. In 1983, Josh married June Locklear in Lubbock and she died in 1994. He then married Janet Weber in 1994 in Las Vegas, Nev. and after three years of marriage, she preceded him in death. Josh played Santa for 25 years as a volunteer for the Abernathy Fire Department.
In 1999, he married Irene Edwards Beaudoin in Lubbock. Together, they volunteered for Meals on Wheels and he became an avid coin collector and was a member of the South Plains Coin Club.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Howard of Lubbock; a son, Roger Howard and wife Grace of San Antonio; a daughter, LaRita Hughes and husband Keith of Lubbock; two stepsons, Donald and Charles Beaudoin, both of Lubbock; and eight grandchildren, Evan and Emily Howard, Haley Hughes, Danielle, Dakota, Austin, Lauren and Landon Beaudoin.
