..Horatio J. Suplee was born near Honeybrook, Chester county, PA. July 29, 1845 and departed this life at his home in Mission, Texas, December 13th, 1919; aged 74 years 4 months and 14 days.
..He came to Illinois in 1869, living there two years, and then came to Des Moines, where he was married on February 26, 1874 to Eva Vestal. No children were born to this union. He came to Audubon county in 1876 and moved to Anita in 1895. He was engaged in business in Anita until 1910 when they moved to Mission, Texas.
..He was converted in his own home at a prayer meeting in 1876. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1876 and was a faithful member and a great church worker. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Anita. He leaves besides his wife, one brother, William A Suplee, of Anita, and one sister, Mrs. Rapp, of Oaks, PA besides a host of friends and neighbors.
..Mr. Suplee is survived by his faithful wife; one brother, Wm. A. Suplee, of Anita; and one sister, Mrs. Rapp, of Oaks, Pennsylvania, and a large circle of friends.
..His long residence in this community was characterized by the daily life of a good man, lived faithfully and well; "with majice toward none, and charity for all."
..The body was brought from Mission, Texas, accompanied by Mrs. Suplee, arriving in Anita late Thursday evening, and funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Friday, at 2:00 o'clock, P.M., conducted by the pastor, Rev. N. Paul Barton, followed by the funeral rites of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which he was a member; the Odd Fellows' and Rebekah Lodges attending the services in a body. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.
..The pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased: C.K. Thornburg, T.H. Thornburg, of Lindan, Iowa; F.B. Suplee, of Payette, Idaho; Wm. H. Suplee, of Almena, Kansas; R.R. and L.E. Suplee, of Anita, Iowa.
