Mazie Roan Black Winters died peacefully on October 18, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born May 17, 1930 in Monroe; she spent her childhood and resided in Farmerville, LA where she married Lonnie Black, Jr., whom preceded her in death in 1963. In 1966, Mazie married John T. Winters and moved to Pineville, LA, with her two children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, having lived a life of service as a Christian woman, serving the Church and community in Pineville and the state of Louisiana. Her most cherished times were spent with family. Mazie enjoyed sewing, music, and working with her husband, John, with the Louisiana Baptist Convention, Baptist Men.
She is survived by her two children, Rikki Roan Black of Ruston, LA, and Tereza Black Kean (Richard) of Baton Rouge; her three grandchildren, David Roan Black (Mandi) of Farmerville, LA, Chauvin Kean, of New Orleans, and Camille Kean Gibson (Amos) of Baton Rouge; great-grandchildren, Nell Eilleen Gibson and Carolyn Camille Gibson; and her sister, Billie Roan Dawkins (Robert) of Ruston, LA. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Lonnie Black, Jr., and John T. Winters; and her parents, Harvey and Glenn Roan.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in Farmerville, LA at the Farmerville City Cemetery, West Franklin St. under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rolling Hills Ministries (Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief Program), P.O. 1177, Ruston, LA 71270.
