Asbury married Katherine Taylor on September 23, 1844 in Lawrence Co., KY.
Their children were John, Elizabeth, Ulysses, Leander, Hester, Trinvilla, Mary, Isabelle, Emma, and Minnie Haws.

Asbury was the son of John Haws and Mary Polly Preston.

Judge Asbury Hawes died suddenly at this home in Prosperity last Tuesday. He was in Louisa Monday of last week and in going home was caught in heavy rain. He was then sick for several days but then got better. He had been away from home and died in the yard of his home upon returning. He was aged 76 years and leaves a large family most of whom are gone. He had moved some of his household goods to the Botner place near Louisa and expected to be living there within a few days. He was buried yesterday by the Masons.
