Melvin Armstrong was born December 3, 1913 in Oakville, Lawrence County, Alabama to James William Armstrong and Sarah Elizabeth Wright Armstrong.

He married Mary Lavern Hogan, a daughter of James Richard Franklin Hogan and Sarah Elizabeth Chenault Hogan.

HARTSELLE - Melvin Armstrong, 50, Vinemont 3, died Thursday at 4 p.m. at a local hospital.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Carter Segars and Dan Dutton officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Peck directing.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Laverne Armstrong, Vinemont 3; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Ann Hill, Falkville 2, Mrs. Peggie Staples, Decatur, and Miss Judie Armstrong, Vinemont 3; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Talley, Cullman; one brother, Emmett Armstrong, Flint, Mich.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Armstrong, Cullman.

Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Church of Christ.

Pallbearers include: Coy Turrentine, Silas Wilhite, Joe W. Maddox, Cecil Echols, Herschel Tucker, and Paul Smithson.

The body is to be taken to the residence today and will remain there until time for services.
