August 9, 1862/September 16, 1862 Promoted to 1st Lt. April 15, 1863 Special Order # 18 from Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, Army of the Frontier at Camp Lake Spring, Missouri: 1st Lt. W. W. Lagnstone, 8th Missouri Cavalry is hereby detailed Acting Assistant Adjutant General and will report to these Headquarters for duty by Order of: J. M. Nulba {?}, Col. 94th Illinois Infantry, Commanding 2nd Brigade. May 1863 Detached from Company to Command two pieces of Artillery attached to Regiment. November 1863 Present, Sick.
