Son of William C. Arndt and Augusta W. Lipke, husband of Freda Ziegler.
Ernst attended the Chicago Technical School and returned to became a home builder in Kitchener. As his family grew, he took up farming so he could more easily feed them.
In his younger days, he would travel to Rock Island, IL. to visit his grandmother Augusta Arndt and his aunt Ida Weber. He would then work on the Mississippi river boats to earn his return train fare. He also travelled the grain trains to western Canada with his brother Henry to help with the wheat harvest.
On June 16, 1926, Ernst literally married the girl next door, as Freda Ziegler's family lived next door to the Arndt's when they were children. Ernst and Freda had 10 children, two sons dying in infancy.
Ernst led a house church for many years.
Ernst was diagnosed with stomach cancer at age 62 and died a few weeks later of a heart attack while driving his tractor.
