Raymond L. Gallagher, Sharon, WI (1927 - 2009)
October 14, 1927 - September 16, 2009 Raymond L. Gallagher, 81, of Sharon, WI, died Sept. 16, 2009, at his home. He was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Yankton, SD, a son of John and Mary Gallagher. He started driving truck for Tuffy Brewer of Yankton, when he was 14 years of age. He drove semi, hauling cattle to Sioux Falls, S.D, and into Iowa. He kept this job until he joined the U.S. Army in Nov. of 1945. He served as a heavy truck driver for three years overseas in Europe as part of his service and was discharged in Dec. 1949. Raymond was one of seven brothers who served in the Armed Forces. He married Elva A. Schole Oct. 5, 1949, in Yankton, SD. Ray was employed by the Beloit Corporation for many years as a machinist, welder, and as a field technician, who helped set up and repair paper machines in the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, South America and Canada. He retired in 1991. He was a good carpenter and enjoyed working on various projects in his home shop. A believer in community service, he had been a member of the Sharon Fire Dept. and served as a trustee on the village board for several years, also lending a hand with various community projects. He was a member of the Moser Ortmann Legion, Post 130. He is survived by his wife, Elva; sons, Dale of Orlando, FL, Billie (Sue) of Clinton, WI, Keary (Linda) of Walworth, WI; a daughter, Kathleen Gallagher of Walworth; two grandchildren, Shannon of Florida and Jason (Erica) of Janesville; one great-grandson, Kevin of Janesville; one brother, Charles (Edie) of Springerville, AZ; and one sister, Mary Flint of Fernwood, ID. The family would like to thank Dr. T. Jones, Dr. S. Patel and Nurse Debbie, the wonderful people from Beloit Regional Hospice who helped with the care and moral support of Raymond Gallagher. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon Fire Dept. or American Legion Post No. 130.
