The Southern Illinoisan, August 14, 2013 VALIER - Thomas Lee Williams, 82, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was an accomplished bricklayer and stone mason since 1949. He helped build SIU, Rend Lake College, Carbondale Post Office, Times Square Mall and many area schools. He was a member of Valier First Baptist Church. He was a Valier board member for many years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Scottish Rights. He was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Griffin, Ind., to Clifford B. Williams and Emerene (Rainey) Williams Remter. Thomas attended high school at Rights High School in Evansville, Ind. He was a U.S. Marine and fought in the Korean War. He married Geneva Pearl (Isom) Williams on Nov. 21, 1953. Survivors include children, Debbi and Gary Reed of Rockvale, Colo., Michael and Ginny Williams of Sesser, Lori and Denny Baggett of O'Fallon, and John and Crystal Williams of Valier; grandchildren, Michelle and Curtis Rogers, Chad and Tonika Schuster, Manda and Bill Palmer, Mikala Williams, Hannah Williams, Logan Baggett, Gabe Saul, Gracie Saul, Thomas Williams, Matt Williams; great-grandchildren, Cole Rogers, Kennedy Rogers, Camden Rogers, Kassedy Rogers, Madalyn Pearl Schuster, Lyndsie Palmer, Garrett Palmer and Tanner Palmer; brothers and sisters, Billy Dean Willams of Lincoln, Neb., Janet (Hart) James of Evansville, Ind., Bonnie Provaznik of Valier, Charlene Hampton of Christopher, Steve Williams of Du Quoin, Connie Cutler of Christopher, Theresa Evans of Mount Vernon, and Ricky Jo Williams of Herrin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry Ray Cavins, two sisters, Anna Rose George and Snooki Bowers and stepmother, Mary Imogene Williams. Services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in Valier First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Valier First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valier First Baptist Church. Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser is in charge of arrangements.
