"Great grandfather John Thomas Chambers served 2 years and eight months in the Revolution. He was shot in the hip at Monmouth June 28, 1778 and was a cripple the remainder of his life".

The Battle of Monmouth Courthouse 28 June 1778, General George Washington, Gen. Nathanael Greene, Patriots of the American Continental Army, beat General Sir Henry Clinton and General Charles Lord Cornwallis who slipped away in the middle of the night not wanting to reingage the battle and slipped into the darkness in retreat to New York City.
