Myrna Burwell passed from this life on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Howard County Medical Center.
She had been residing at the Brookfield Park Nursing Home in St. Paul.
A private family graveside service will be held.
Myrna was born March 27, 1936, in Grand Island to Laurence and Susie Olson.
She grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Senior High in 1954.
In the fall of 1954, she entered nursing school at NE Methodist in Omaha, and graduated with her R.N. in 1957.
Upon graduation she came back to Grand Island where she was employed with the Veterans Administration. It was there she met Dr. James Burwell and married November 1, 1958.
In 1962 they headed west to Ogallala to settle their family where Jim went into private practice.
Born to this union was Shawn (1960), Jeffrey (1962) and Michael (1963).
After Jim's retirement they moved back to Grand Island in 1992.
She enjoyed the country living, traveling and entertaining family and friends.
Myrna's faith was the cornerstone of her life and victory is hers as she awaits Resurrection day with the return of her risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Over the years she led Bible studies and helped mentor women in their faith. One of her favorite scriptures was John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Family was always her priority and love. She is survived by her sons, Shawn (Annette), Jeffrey (Cindy) and Michael (Sandra); grandchildren, Jennifer, JR, Luke, Sarah, Noah, Meghan and Katie; sisters MaryAnn (Ron) Holloway, Pam (Mark) DeLong and Susie (Bob) Sands and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by husband, James; her parents and brother, Larry Olson.
