DECATUR - Ada Mildred Joplin, 94, of Decatur, IL passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 12, 2009) at Imboden Creek Living Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 16, 2009 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Forsyth United Methodist Church or a charity of choice that may benefit children. Miss Joplin was born on October 7, 1915 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of James M. and Rosella Taylor Joplin. She lived her entire life time in Decatur, IL, attending Decatur Public Schools. She was a licensed professional nurse graduating from Decatur and Macon County Hospital School of Nursing. She did post-graduate study in administration at the University of Chicago, and public health nursing at George Peabody College, Nashville, TN. She served as obstetrical supervisor at Decatur and Macon County Hospital; was a staff nurse including rural school nurse while employed by Macon County Tuberculosis and Visiting Nurses Association; and , Industrial nursing at A.E. Staley's. She retired from her position as public health nurse with the Decatur City Health Department. She was active in local and state nursing organizations and gave much time to civic and social work in Decatur and Macon County. After retirement she was a volunteer for Decatur Public School health department, Macon County Health Department and Macon County Red Cross, being instrumental in establishing the weekly blood pressure program in Hickory Point Mall. She was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church, DOVE RSVP Program and Decatur Genealogical Society. Surviving is her special niece: Karen (Don) Doty of Charleston, IL; their son, Jeff (Elizabeth) Doty and their son, Clay of Evansville, IN. Many other loving, caring and important nieces and nephews sharing with her great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, one nephew: Earl (Ed) Joplin, adopted nephew: Ralph Kline and Edna Mae Riggs a good friend whom she shared a home with since school of nursing days.
