Andrew was the youngest child of Jens Christian Anderson and Anne Cathrine (Nielsen) Anderson. According to his veteran tombstone application, he is buried in Pacific Lutheran Cemetery.

His middle name is listed as Christen on his World War II draft registration and as Christian in U.S. Veterans Administration records.

His father, mother and four older sisters immigrated from Denmark in 1884 and settled in Douglas County, Minnesota. Jens's much older brother Niels resided there. Nels and Kirsten were childless, so they took and raised Jens's two-year-old daughter Elise. Andrew's older brother had been born and died in Denmark. Andrew's older brother Nels was born in Minnesota, followed by Andrew.

Jens, wife Anna and chldren Elsie, Nels and "Anders," lived in Alexandria township, Douglas County, Minnesota, in 1900. In 1910, the same five people lived in the same place. Andrew was age 21, single, a farm laborer on the home farm.

The national registration day for the World War I draft was 5 June 1917. Andrew was ill, and his registration was filled out in advance on 31 May 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the clerk in Alexandria, Minnesota, to complete. The card itself is stamped "disinfected."

Andrew entered the U.S. Army on 14 December 1917. On 24 January 1918, as a private in Co. D (16th Co.), 20th Engineers, Andrew set sail on the troopship SS "Tuscania" from New York City. On 5 February 1918, in the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland, the "Tuscania" was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine UB-77, with the loss of 215 lives.

In May 1919, Andrew returned from war aboard the "Santa Paula." On both voyages, he had listed his father Jens C. Anderson of Nelson, MInnesota, as his next-of-kin. His military serial number was 250444. Andrew was discharged from the Army on 8 June 1919.

In the 1920 census, Andrew C. Anderson, age 32, single, is a farm laborer on the home farm. He lives with his parents Jens and Anna and single sister Elsie in Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota.

On 6 May 1925 in Carpio, Ward County, North Dakota, Andrew married Myrtle Florence Lee. She was born 31 March 1907 in Carpio, Ward County, North Dakota, and died 28 December 1990 in Seattle, King County, Washington. She was the daughter of Andrew Lee and Gurina Berntina (Rostad) Lee, both born in Norway.
