About 1841, John moved from Harrisburgh (now Houston TX) to Alto Miro, a Hamlet in Montgomery County, Texas now Anderson, Grimes County TX. & worked as a Clerk for his cousin, Charles J. BIRDSALL, owner & operator of the first mercantile house in that hamlet. A few months later, Charles died & John inherited his business. John prospered greatly. He also succeeded Charles as Postmaster there. He finally moved back to Houston, where he died July 13, 1867.
