Henry Force, 84, well known farmer, business man and marble and granite salesman and also real estate dealer, died Monday at his home on William street after a long illness. He had been a resident of Gouverneur for many years.

Mr. Force was born in Lowville August 30, 1846, son of Merrit and Eunice Colton Force. He attended the Lowville schools. On March 8, 1868, he married Miss Louise A. Whitmore of DeKalb and engaged in farming on the outer end of the Rock Island road from Gouverneur in what is known as the Maple Grove district. He removed to Wegatchie and continued farming.

He left the Wegatchie farm and came to Gouverneur and engaged as marble and granite monumental salesman for the late Charles Dunkleburg, which position he held until the death of Mr. Dunkleburg 22 years ago. He then entered business in Ogdensburg, but returned to Gouverneur where he concluded his active days in business as a salesman for J. Walter McLean who conducts a monument business and also as a dealer in real estate.

Failing health prevented active work several years ago. The survivors are the widow, three sons, Charles and Leon Force of Gouverneur and Carl Force of Antwerp, three daughters, Mrs. Myron Apple, Somerville, Mrs. William Storie, Gouverneur and Mrs. Pearl Love, Antwerp.

Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. J. W. Barrett, pastor of the Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in Riverside cemetery.
