I have come in for more than a full share of both, but am now on the mend. I regret to state that two able ollicers died here last night and are to be buried here this afternoon. CoL William S. Fisher, who commanded the noted Mier expedilion, and Capt Francis S Early, who commanded the Washington company of Texas Rangers at the battles of Monterey.
The former had just married a young and accomplished wife; the latter was hourly expecting his family to meet him at this place. "
