Mrs. Mary Iva Powell Bailey, 95, of Morganton, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Mary was born on June 18, 1928 in Burke County to the late Robert Lee Powell and Mary Etta Watts Powell.

She retired from Western Carolina Center, now J. Iverson Riddle, where she worked in the dietary department for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon James Bailey, a son, Carroll James Bailey, and numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.

Surviving are her two daughters, Brenda Bailey of Morganton, Rachel Bailey and Kelly Poteat of Morganton, and one sister, Ethel Pearson. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Dani Bailey, Caitlyn Maben and Johnny Maben, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Burke Memorial Park.
