He was born in Andalusia, Ala., to Lucious Jordan Mason and Arlie Bell "Doll Baby" Woodham Mason. He had lived in Tupelo for the last 26 years.
He graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where he received his bachelor's degree in music, and then from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received his master's degree.
He was a charter member of the Centurymen. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church and had served as their minister of music for 21 years before retiring. The last four and a half years he had served as minister of music for First Baptist Church in Houston.
He loved to fish, garden and grow flowers, especially daylilies, and spend time with his family and grandchildren. He was a truly unique, loving individual, ministering to all people.
Services were held Oct. 31 at Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Rev. David Langerfield and Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial was at Chickasaw Memorial Garden Cemetery in Houston. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ella Mae Mason of Tupelo; one daughter, Sheila Mason Magee and her husband, William Reginald Magee, of Tupelo; one son, Edwin Jamil "Jay" Mason and his wife, Marigene Morris Mason, of Brentwood, Tenn.; one sister, Margaret Klawinski of Gulfport; six grandchildren, Margaret Ann Horton, Jack Morris Mason, Max Morris Mason, Charles Joseph Horton, Abby Leigh Mason and Jacob Mason Horton; a special friend, Marvin Harwood; a special caregiver, Mary Kilgo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Louis Henry Mason; and one sister, Louise Mason Eiland.
