Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, January 18, 1954: "78-Year-Old Oroville Woman Dies Saturday. Oroville -- Graveside services will be held Wednesday for Mrs. Esther Matson, 78, who died in her Oroville home Saturday following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10 a.m., in the burial society cemetery in Chico. Mrs. Matson had lived in Oroville for 27 years. Survivors include her husband, Carl; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Dillon, of Arizona; a brother, Ed Thompson, of Thermalito; and two nephews, Clarence Parker of Thermalito, and John Robinson, of Wyoming."

Graveside services for Mrs. Esther Matson, of Oroville, were held this morning in the Burial Society Cemetery. Rev. Nathan McFarland, of the Pentecostal Church, officiated. Mrs. Detha [sic; Hertha, Ed.] McFarland sang `Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me.' Pallbearers were Ed Thompson, Clarence Parker, and Harold Roper, all of Thermalito, and Bert Gribble, John Gray and Otto Sutherland, all of Chico."
