He was born Jan. 25, 1947 in Peoria to Sylvester and June (Ford) Mahan. He married Mary Ellen Kerker on Feb. 15, 1969 in Peoria. She survives along with two sons: Dennis (Gretchen) Mahan of Mapleton, Chris Mahan of Peoria, one daughter, Jill (Chuck) Mathes of Tremont, one brother, Ken Mahan of St. Louis, and two sisters: Sue (Scott) Bitcon of AZ, Carol Young of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ernie was a United States Marine veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military, he worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for over 30 years retiring 2002 as a Line Foreman.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Ernie's life will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Mausoleum.
