Age 78 passed away at home on Sun. Sep. 24, 2023 with his loving family by his side following declining health. Born on Sep. 18, 1945 in Elmira, Jim was the son of the late, James J. & Irene D. Warters Ameigh. He grew up farming and had a real appreciation for the outdoors. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on a mine sweeper. He married the love of his life, Sharon Riker on Apr. 29, 1972 in Elmira Heights. Together they have shared 51 wonderful years together. A great provider and devoted family man, Jim was employed by New York State Department of Corrections retiring in 2006 with 25 years of service. His interests included watching NASCAR, hockey, Gunsmoke and hunting. Surviving is his loving family, wife and companion, Sharon Riker Ameigh, Gillett, PA; their loving daughters, Tammy (Joel) Palmer, Terri Ameigh-Gilbert (Joseph Lovett) and Tracy (Robert) Bolt; loved like daughters, Sherri (Joel) Newman, and Jenny Kendall; grandchildren, Micah Palmer, Neah (Richard) Balatgek, Robbie Bolt, Cameron Jones, Mariah (Patrick) Bolt Hagedorn, Megan (Jesse) Johnson, Morgan Ameigh, Brett Cossel, Kayla Gibert, James Gilbert, Hunter Gilbert, Elijah Lovett, and Emily Lovett; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews along with special friends, Bruce and Pat Dyer, Rich Packard, and the Griffin family. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a grandson, Cameron Ameigh in 2001; and his sister Beverly Erway. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Elmira/Southport, NY 14904 on Thur. Sep. 28, 2023 between the hours of 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Caywood's, Fri. at 11 a.m. with military honors accorded Mr. Ameigh. Burial will follow in Baptist Hill Cemetery, Columbia Cross Roads, PA. Memorials may be directed to the Big Elm Fire Dept., South Creek Ambulance Assoc. and Wells-Jackson Lion's Club in his memory.
