Johnnie Faye Colvin worked as a real-estate broker for Colvin & Co. in Ruston for 47 years. Johnnie was active in the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Home Builders, and the National Association of Women's Council. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ruston.
Johnnie enjoyed gardening, decorating, and reading. She also enjoyed being active in civil affairs. Some of Johnnie's favorite memories include spending time at the camp on Lake D'Arbonne, Christmas time, and vacationing.
Her greatest life lessons are to be kind to people and to never forget where you came from. Johnnie worked hard and held some of her accomplishments very close to her heart. She earned an honorary doctorate degree from Louisiana Tech University and was the president of the National Women's Council. Johnnie formed an Inventors Society in Louisiana and had a couple of inventions herself.
Johnnie Faye married her husband James R. Colvin, Sr. March 13, 1953, in Ruston. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Sidney Joel Colvin; and brothers: Ted Loyd, Jack Loyd, and Norman Lee "Buddy"Loyd.
Johnnie is survived by her children: Laura Martzell and Donald Rosenberg of Key Biscayne, FL, James R. "Dickie" Colvin, Jr. and wife Dawn of Ocoee, TN, Jamie Colvin of CO and daughter-in-law Carol Colvin of Ruston, LA; grandchildren: Ryan Persac of Boston, MA, Jeanne Casey of New Orleans, LA, Courtney Fox of TN, Joel Colvin, Jr. of Ruston, LA, Caleb Colvin of CO, Elizabeth Patterson of MS and Cole Herrington of MS; great-grandchildren: Harper, Michael, Clara, Chloe, Avery, Cole and Alex; sister Elizabeth Diehm of OK; beloved niece Candy Reece; great-niece Jennifer Beckett; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and many friends.
