He was retired from Steelcase and known as the Sunflower man in the Ox Creek Community. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Bradley; Shirley Guthrie, and Evone Dalton; brothers Bill and Dickie Ballard.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years Brenda Brank Ballard; daughters Connie Massey (Mickey) and Caryn Cogdill (Tony); grandchildren Tyler Cogdill (Taylor), Meagan Cogdill (Jonathan) and Mickey Massey, Jr. (Corren).
A funeral service will be held 2:30pm Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Steve Rhinehart and Bob Hagan will officiate. The burial will follow in the Brank Cemetery, Weaverville.
