Maud was the daughter of John Scott Sellers and his wife Pauline Meyer (a native of Germany).

She grew up in Galveston, TX where her father, along with his brother (and her uncle) Cpt William H Sellers, founded the Galveston Cotten Exchange.

In Jan, 1881, Maud's sister Blanche married Dr. Samuel Oliver Young, a native of Houston, TX. Blanche and Samuel had a son named Samuel who died in Nov 1881. Blanche herself died only two years later in 1883.

Blanche's death followed the death of her and Maud's mother, Pauline (Meyer) Sellers, in 1882, and preceded the death of their father, John Scott Sellers, by only one month. (John Sellers died Sep 14, 1883). The disposition of their parents' remains hasn't been determined.

Maud (age 15) who was now an orphan, and her younger sister Pauline (age 14) went to live with their sister's widowed husband Dr Samuel Oliver Young Jr. By 1885, Maud and her sister ('Lena') had gone to live with Samuel's grandparents in Houston (Nathan and M Jane Fuller). Apparently love blossomed between Maud and Samuel, and in Dec of 1885, just after her 18th birthday, Maud married Dr Young.

Together, Maud and Dr Young had three children: Gail Sellers Young (1888-1954), Maud Jeanne Young (Stevens) (1892-1960), and Doris Young (Browne) (1893-1948).
