Dean J. Pettingill, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at his home. He was under the care of his family and Hands of Hope Hospice.

Dean was born on April 6, 1927, in Rigby, Idaho to John Ulysses and Armeda Josephine Johnson Pettingill. He grew up in Rigby. He attended Rigby High School and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1945.

After graduation, Dean joined the US Navy on May 31, 1945, until he was honorably discharged on August 12, 1946. On December 29, 1950, he rejoined the Navy and served until October 29, 1954, when he was honorably discharged as Builder Third Class.

On December 2, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Margaret LaNae Norton in the Idaho Falls Temple. To this union, two sons were born: Bradley J and Curtis J.

Dean was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings throughout his life.

He worked for Ogden Standard Examiner and The Post Register. He owned and operated several businesses such as Big Scoop Ice Cream, The Spudnut Shop, Prairie Dog Wagons, and residential construction. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by his sons: Bradley (Sherisse) Pettingill of Idaho Falls, ID and Curtis Pettingill of Yuma, AZ; 11 grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaNae, his parents, and his siblings.

Family graveside will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2020, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
