Donna Marie (Anderson) Whalen
Former UPMC registered nurse was mother of 15
Donna Marie (Anderson) Whalen, 58 Forker Place, Sharon, died peacefully at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. She was 75. Mrs. Whalen was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Jamestown to the late John Waldemere and Myrtle Mae (Herrick) Anderson She was a registered nurse at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, for more than 10 years. She had also been a regional manager for the Ideal and Friendly Home Toys. She was a big fan of NASCAR and racer Tony Stewart, and her hobbies included setting up her annual Christmas village, camping, fishing, roller-skating, crafts, reading (especially Stephen King), creative writing and gardening. She was an avid CBer with the handle "Green Granny." Mrs. Whalen had been active with the Farrell Community Theatre as well as a Girl Scout and Brownie leader. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Pymatuning Joint High School and a 1984 graduate of Sharon Regional Health System School of Nursing. She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. She married Patrick James Whalen Sept. 5, 1953. He died Feb. 21, 2001. Mrs. Whalen, along with others, formed the "We Care Because" group that assisted needy area families. She is survived by: eight daughters, Colleen and her husband Robert Eskridge, Starkville, Miss.; Faith Eileen and her husband Shawn Fedor, Slippery Rock; Michaeleen and her husband Lynn Miller, Sharon; Donna "DeeDee" D. and her husband Will Drake, Slippery Rock; Laureen and her husband William Brown, Dayton, Ohio; Janeen and her husband Robert Mancino, Hermitage; Bernadeen "Birdie" and her husband Daniel Smith, Sharpsville; and Patricia "Kiki" Whalen and her companion Earl Simpson II, at home; six sons, Patrick S. and his wife Terri Lynn Whalen, Sharon; Daniel P. and his wife Brenda Whalen, Howland Township, Trumbull County, Ohio; John Jarrett K. Whalen and his fiancée Mandi McCrea, Mercer; Terence A. and his wife Michelle Whalen, Mercer; Frederick J. and his wife Marcie Whalen, Sharon; and Brian W.T. Whalen, at home. She is also survived by: a sister, Faye Udby, 9 Mile Falls, Wash.; a brother, John W. and his wife Evelyn Anderson, Jamestown; a sister-in-law, June Anderson, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; and 47 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Denni Kathleen Whalen; three grandchildren, Brent C. Brown and William and Julia Drake; three sisters, Marion Anderson, Judy Anderson and Patty Mitchell; and three brothers, Frank Frederick and Carl "Short" Anderson.
