Alana Joy Kydland passed away September 11, 2023 at Sacramento California's Kaiser hospital from severe complications of diabetes. She was born May 20, 1947 to George Richard Day and Ina Claire Young in Olympia, Washington. Alana attended school in Tillamook, Oregon until the family moved back to Olympia, where she graduated from North Thurston High School in 1965. She attended Sacramento City College, where she received an AA in Business Administration. She also pursued additional studies at California State University, Sacramento.

Alana was married to Kenneth (Kenny) W. Kydland in Olympia, Washington on July 2, 1965 and divorced December 22, 1970. She never remarried and had no children.

She started her greatest adventure in life when she packed up and struck out for Sacramento all by herself in the 70s for a career change. She lived in Sacramento almost 50 years.

Over her 50+ year career, Alana was a State worker in Washington and then California. She generally worked in Personnel in some capacity. She also had a few side hustles: running state entrance exam testing on weekends, and working the Arco Arena ticket booths for Sacramento Kings games. After retirement she worked for the State as a retired annuitant (they couldn't survive without her!). Alana was given opportunities in her career and was always sure to pay it forward by giving a hand up to her coworkers.

Alana was a hard-working, honest, kind woman who was well respected. She was a considerate, loyal friend, who had a sweet soul. She loved socializing, her career, her cats Shrimp and Scampi, her fish Gilbert and O'Sullifin, and doing crafts like embroidery and other needlework. She had an amazing way with plants and could grow and nurture almost anything. She always had her house decorated to the max for Christmas and Halloween which was a sight to behold. In her younger years she liked to travel and run marathons.

She used to go to work dressed as a clown for Halloween every year and also wore the outfit to volunteer events where children were involved. She had a big heart, and was very giving and kind. She was a great storyteller. She always seemed to remember every special day in the lives of her family and friends, and never seemed to forget a birthday, anniversary, or even your pet's birthdays.

Her favorite way to spend time was laughing with friends and family—you just never knew what she might say which was the best part. She was hilarious and quick witted. If you have ever been blessed to have a special friend who is always there for you, then in some way, you know Alana's love and devotion. She was truly a one-of-a-kind, classy lady. She made friends wherever she went.

Alana was preceded in death by Ina (mother), George (father), and her elder brother Edward Alan Day. She is survived by her sister Shirley Anne Day of Sacramento, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and lots and lots of dear friends.

Alana's family would like to thank the policemen, EMTs, and medical staff at Kaiser Hospital North, and most importantly her BFF, Cindy D. of Sacramento.

Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (https://diabetes.org/) in lieu of flowers.
