September 7, 1928 - September 9, 2023
The Honorable Judge Charles Robert "C.R." Luker, age 95, passed away at home on September 9, 2023.
He is preceded in death by his precious wife, Mary Ray Everman Luker, and eldest daughter, Elizabeth Harris. He leaves one daughter, Kindra Robinson (Danny), was "Pow Pow" to three grandchildren, Lindsey Owens (Trey Bledsoe), Courtney Michael, and Molly Wolfe (Tyler), three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
C.R. was an example of a life well lived. Born on September 7, 1928, in London, KY to Charles Sr. and Ethel Crawford Luker, he spent 2 yrs. in the Marines, attended college at Georgetown, and earned his law degree at the University of Louisville in 1952. He returned to London to practice law with his brother Milton. From there, he was appointed circuit judge in 1979 and sat on the bench until 1991 at which point, he returned to practicing law. During his career, he was also appointed Chief Regional Judge, U.S. Magistrate, London City Attorney, and city school board member. C.R. contributed to our community in many ways, but he felt that his work in advising and organizing most of the independent water districts in the area was his greatest accomplishment. He was honored to have played a part in providing clean water to those in need.
C.R. was and always will be more than any single title earned. He lived a remarkable, extraordinary life while maintaining empathy and love for his family, friends, and fellow man. The world lost an absolute gem the likes of which will never be replaced. He can, however, live on in any person who chooses to better themselves through learning and hard work. That is just the kind of man he was and the kind of man one should aspire to be.
