Mrs. Agnes Beatrice Vines Hagin, left this world for her Heavenly home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Mrs. Hagin was born on June 22, 1939 in Felton, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Jessie McKinley Vines and Virginia Estelle Beatenbaugh Vines.
Mrs. Hagin was a graduate of the Cedartown High School Class of 1957. She was also a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as assistant teacher of the Myrtle McKelvey Sunday School Class, she was a member of the church choir and had served as teacher and director of the church's Vacation Bible School program.
An excellent journalist, Mrs. Hagin began her journalism career as a society writer for the Cedartown Standard in 1957. In 1959, she became a feature and news writer. She continued in this position until 1967 when she became an employee of The Rockmart Journal. During her tenure with The Journal, she served many positions including type and proofreader, columnist, feature writer, news editor and senior news editor. When the Cedartown Standard and the Rockmart Journal merged, Mrs. Hagin assumed the role of senior news editor for The Standard Journal. She retained this position until her retirement in 2015. At the time of her retirement, she was honored by The Polk County Board of Commissioners, The City of Rockmart, and The City of Aragon with resolutions recognizing her years of journalistic excellence in reporting government and community affairs. Mrs. Hagin loved her job and always said it was one of God's greatest blessings because it allowed her to meet so many people and share her great love of Gold and His Son Jesus with them.
In addition to her work in the newspaper field, Mrs. Hagin was also an accomplished free-lance writer having had her works published in The Reader's Digest, Ladies Home Journal, The Daily Devotional and several Southern Baptist Association publications. Though she did not like to brag, she was recognized and received numerous awards for her excellence in journalism for the Georgia Press Association and the National Press Association.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hagin is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Jesse Hagin on July 7, 2005 and to whom she was married August 15, 1959. Also, by great-grandson, Tuff Perry; sisters, Ruby Kelley, Lola Sullivan, and Bessie Brown; and brothers, Clyde Vines and William David Vines.
Mrs. Hagin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Ken Perry of Cedartown; grandchildren, Alison Perry of Cedartown, Jesse Perry and Christy Wagers of Bristow, VA, Mallory Perry of Cave Spring, and Jacob and Jessica Perry of Rome; great-grandchildren, Aryn Perry, Riley Wagers, Grayson Wagers, Troy Perry, Rory Perry, Annaley Perry, BriLeie Perry, Hayden Scarborough, Grayson Perry, Ethan Maddox, Daniel Lane Perry, KJ Perry, Aura Perry, Ellamarie Perry, Jess Perry and John Maddox; brother, Rev. Billy Vines; sister, Brenda Holley; nieces and nephews, Rene'e McAvoy, Ginger Sheffield, Deborah Vines, James Vines, Ricky Vines, Scott Vines, and Ben Holley.
The funeral service for Mrs. Agnes Beatrice Vines Hagin will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at four o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Davis officiating. Her grandson, Jesse Perry will provide the eulogy. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Hagin's dear friend, Mrs. Kathy Cowart. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Hagins will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from seven o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock in evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jacob Perry, Daniel Perry, Ben Holley, Ricky Vines, Scott Vines, and James Vines. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Myrick and Jack Montfort.
