Ruth Irene Bauerlein, 86, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2008, in Katy.

Ruth was born January 23, 1922, in Staples and lived near the community for more than 80 years.

She spent the remaining five years living in Assisted Living facilities to be near her son and family in Katy.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, John Clunn and Lillie Allen McKean; her husband of 45 years, Ronald "Freddy" Bauerlein; daughter Ruth Diane Bauerlein; and sister Julia Mae Hamby.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie, and wife, Sheri; grandchildren, Courtney, Catherine, and Chapman, all of Katy. She is also survived by sister Elaine Dorow and husband Buddy; brother Allen McKean and wife Chris; and 15 nieces and nephews who all dearly loved her.

Ruth attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, receiving a B.A. in Education, and spent her life teaching Physical Education.

She always went "the extra mile" in her classes, creating many lasting relationships with students over the years.

Ruth was also a very active and dedicated member of the Staples United Methodist Church, touching the lives of many people who considered her as a very special friend.

After moving to be near her son and family, she also impacted the lives of those around her in the Assisted Living facilities.

She participated in all activities and easily made many new friends with her cheerful, positive attitude.

The family will receive friends at the Staples United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m. today with funeral services following at 3 p.m., with the Rev. June Cantrell officiating.

Interment will follow at the Staples Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Staples United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Staples, TX 78670, or the American Diabetes Association, 2499 Capital of Texas Hwy South, Bldg. A, #204, Austin, TX 78746.
