Obituary
Barbara Nibley Richards
It is with bitter sweetness that we say an earthly goodbye to Barbara Nibley Richards. We're certain that she had a joyous reunion on the other side with her eternal companion, Lynn, her parents, her five brothers, her grandson Stephen, and many others. She is the last of a generation. Barbara told us that she just wanted to live longer than her brother Hugh because it would be the only thing she would have beat him at. She won- by three years.
Barbara was born on April 2, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA. From there she has lived in Glendale, CA, Hollywood, Seattle, Provo (Briefly), back to CA, New York, then back to Provo to attend "The BYU".
While there, Barbara performed in drama, music, and even comedy. She served in many church callings. Music was a huge part of Barbara's life. Barbara met a recent veteran from the war while working at the BYU housing office. A dashingly handsome young man named Stanford Lynn Richards. It didn't take long (an entire four months) for the two to fall in love and be married. They were married on January 27, 1949, in the Salt Lake temple.
School and work took their family to many places. In between these moves they had their six children.
After living in Long Beach, CA for nearly 24 years, Lynn and Barbara moved to Pleasant Grove, UT. Barbara's favorite church calling was that of a Timpanogos temple ordinance worker. When she was eighty, she taught the 7–8-year-olds in Primary! When she was eighty-eight her last church calling was to be the ward historian. No matter what calling she had, she gave it her all.
At age ninety, Barbara moved in with her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Mandy in Cedar Hills, UT.
Barbara never stopped being busy- especially in her advanced years. Whether it was callings, music, writing personal histories, visiting family and friends, reading, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (Perhaps she'll get to meet Alex Trebek).
Barbara's (and Lynn's) lives were always dedicated in service to Heavenly Father. It didn't matter what it was. They were and still are great examples to our family and others of how a Latter-Day-Saint should live. Because Lynn and Barbara loved much in this life, they have been loved also. It is because of their examples and teachings that we have a belief and faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. Because of His love, we will all live again. This mortal life is not the end but another steppingstone in our Father's plan for us. We will all be resurrected into immortality. Because of Him, we believe and have faith that we will see not only her again, but many of those that have gone before us. Many who have greatly sacrificed themselves in the faith and service of God so that we can enjoy the blessings that the gospel of Jesus Christ provides.
We would like to sincerely and with great love thank Jeff and Mandy for the wonderful and loving care that they have given to Barbara over the seven years she spent with them- especially the care she has been given these past few months.
Legacy of Lynn and Barbara as of today:
6 Children
26 grandchildren
56 great-grand children
From Barbara…
"A Personal Note to my Family: Always be faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Be 'steadfast and immovable'; and follow the prophet. I love you all forever. I hope you will miss me a little but have a party- and don't forget the cheesecake."

She will be missed.

Funeral- 9/16/23. 11:00. Cedar Creek 8th Ward building. 3785 W Box Elder Dr. Cedar Hills, UT

Visitation- Closed casket. 10:00-10:45.
