Electrical engineer in the telegraph and telephone industry. He was the asst., and later the full superintendant of the Newark branch of the New York and New Jersey Telephone Co. from at least 1902 to 1907. The last mention I can find of him alive is a 1907 newspaper mention of his wife Alice moving from Pittsfield, Massachusetts (her home town) with her children to join him in New Jersey. I cannot locate an obit or death record under any of his name variations (Evans Backus, Evan Backus, Evens Backus, E. E. Backus, Edward E. Backus).
