Funeral services for Mrs. Erma McKinney Vaden, age 80, of Gordonsville, were held Wednesday morning, November 6, 1996, at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes conducted by Bro. Ed Spiva, Bro. Neil Dobson and Bro. Brantley Tillery. Interment was in Gordonsville Cemetery. Mrs. Vaden died Sunday night, November 3, 1996 at Carthage General Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Vaden was a native of the Bluff Creek Community of Smith County, the daughter of the late Myrtle James McKinney and Eva Campbell Gibbs McKinney.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers; Vernon, Randall “Buddy”, L.L., Henry Douglas “Jack”, and Ray McKinney.

She was married to David Curg Vaden on November 3, 1943. Before her retirement she was longtime manager of the cafeteria at Gordonsville School. She was a lifelong member of the Cedar Point United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Vaden is survived by her husband: David Curg Vaden; daughter, Carol Ann Vaden, Gordonsville, daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Lynn and Craig LaFever, Madison, Melinda Jane and Pat Cothron, Gordonsville, and Eva Beth and Harold Jenkins, Carthage; five grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Cothron, Chad LaFever, Stephanie and Brittany Jenkins; sisters, Frances McKinney Anderson, Bakersfield, California, and Ila McKinney Osborne of Kokomo, Indiana; brothers, Eldred and Billy McKinney both of Madera, California, and Britt McKinney, Gordonsville.

The Family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Cedar Point United Methodist Church.
