Sylvanus married Clarissa Sterling Sill on Dec 2, 1817. He and Clarissa lived in Lyme for a year before moving to Lee, Massachusetts, then Fort Ann, NY and lastly to Gouverneur in 1823. In Gouverneur he purchased a farm, but made his living as a manufacturer of woolen cloths.
