Mrs. Edith M. Hale, 78, Columbus Route 4, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the Maude Norton Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for one day. She had been in ill health for two years.

Born April 5, 1906, the daughter of William George and Alta Maude Lyons Evans, she was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She married Lonzo R. Hale June 2, 1925, at Carthage, MO. He survives.

Mrs. Hale had devoted her life to her family.

Also surviving are three sons, Alfred Hale, Wichita, Gary Hale, Jenks, Okla., and Bill Hale, Wilburton, Okla.; four daughters, Juanita Jarrett, rural Baxter Springs, Alice Houser, rural Columbus, Lorna Barrett, Loveland, Colo., and Jane Alumbaugh, San Antonio, Tex.; two sisters, Iva
Lopp, Holbrook, Ariz., and Louise Mitchell, Grove, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, one son, Gordon Hale, three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, southwest of Columbus with the Rev. Dennis Clough officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Jorden-Murdock Funeral Home.
